Sony BDP-S590 Great Picture Quality and Fast loading features,

This BDP-S590  is replacing my old S570. I gave the S570 to my Dad because since he has an old TV with just component inputs. BD players built after 2011 do not provide component connections!
Sony BDP-S590 is very similar to my old one but it has few advantages. The wireless adapter seems much improved as my buffering issues with NetFlix are a thing of the past. With that said, I wonder if the new UI from NetFlix, which is available with this device, does help with the buffering. The web browser is also vastly improve and I can send images from my iPhone to the unit.

Sony BDP-S590 Plays lots of different file formats. Poor Wi-Fi

I bought this unit as my first blue ray player and am very pleased. I wanted to purchase a unit that, besides being a blue ray player, supported both DLNA and Amazon Prime so I could watch home movies/pictures from my DLNA server (a Synology DS212) and on-demand movies from Amazon. The setup, while straightforward, took some time (30 minutes perhaps). This is a perfect solution for my needs.

Pros:
Easy setup
Love the user interface
DLNA works great for viewing or listening to files off of a PC
Plays music, video, and photo files from a PC in sequence. You don't have to manually start each file. Not all players will do this.
The Iphone app works wonderfully with it.
Great video and audio with DVDs and Blu Ray discs.
Cons:
The Wi-Fi reception is very poor. Others have complained about this as well. I had to hard wire the player via ethernet to get enough throughput to play movies from my PC without the player constantly stopping to buffer. Granted, the player is in the basement, one floor down from my wireless router, but only about 15 linear feet separate them. My Iphone and laptop seem to get quite strong signal in the very same location. Well, the wired connection works just fine. I've had no issues with using apps such as YouTube, Pandora, etc.
It will not currently play the high resolution FLAC audio files - bummer
Overall I really like this player. It does seem to need either a better Wi-Fi antenna or a better Wi-Fi receiver, or both.
